Temple de Bex et Couvent de La Pelouse, Bex

The Bex Music Festival was founded in 2025 by Robert and Machteld Schrama-Stewart to give talented young musicians a stage and visibility. A non-profit foundation, it holds chamber-music concerts every two months at the Couvent de La Pelouse and the church of Bex, along with an annual festival and competition. Its ambition: to reveal the new generation of musicians and artistic directors of the Vaud Chablais.

Bex: a springboard for the new generation

A festival born in 2025

The festival is the work of Robert Sandford Stewart, a Canadian economist, and Machteld Schrama, a Dutch patron committed to young musicians. Rather than competing with Verbier or Gstaad for prestige, they wanted a community-minded festival that nurtures tomorrow’s creators from Bex and the Chablais.

Young performers play there alongside world-class professionals, to gain the experience and confidence they need. All the region’s musicians are invited to apply, and the concerts are open to every audience.

The Bex Young Artist Prize

At the heart of the project, the Bex Young Artist Prize is meant to build a pipeline of future professionals: laureates receive start-up funding and mentoring, gradually forming an ecosystem of young musicians who support one another year after year.

Rooted in chamber music, the festival sees itself as a springboard to international excellence, in the image of the performers its founders cite as models: Yehudi Menuhin and Janine Jansen.
