Share
Type
Mixed vocal ensemble
Address
Collège de la Tour-Rouge, Villeneuve

Crescendo (“growing”) was first, in 1989, the children’s choir of the Chablais, bringing together young people from the schools of Aigle, Bex and around. Dissolved in 2005, it was reborn in 2007 as an independent mixed vocal ensemble, with more mature voices and a new repertoire. The emphasis is on vocal culture and a cappella polyphony, from light and traditional music to the great classical repertoire, from the Renaissance to today. Based in Villeneuve since 2015, the ensemble prepares a programme each early summer and another for the year-end festivities.

The Crescendo vocal ensemble

From a children’s choir (1989) to a mixed ensemble (2007)

The school choir, recognised as one of Switzerland’s very good children’s choirs, was dissolved in 2005 by the cantonal education authority. In 2007 some of the singers, now young adults, came together to revive Crescendo as an independent ensemble. Daniel Bacsinszky directed it from 2008 to 2010, Sébastien Vonlanthen from 2011 to February 2014, then Daniel Bacsinszky again until the Christmas 2018 concert, with Vivaldi’s Gloria as the centrepiece. Frédéric Meyer de Stadelhofen took over from January 2019.
