La Goulue is the home of Françoise and Pierre-Alain Cap-Beffa, in Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz. Conceived as a place of encounter around music, it has hosted since the 2000s the “Concerts à La Goulue”, in a vast open space graced by a grand piano, a continuo organ and four harpsichords. The format is that of salon music, unpartitioned and without elitism: about ten concerts a year, a capacity of fifty to sixty people, and a meeting with the artists over a drink. The house gives a special place to the harpsichord and early music, alongside the classical repertoire.
La Goulue, a house devoted to music
A house built around music
When the couple built their house, they did not want to withdraw into it but to make it a place of encounter around music. Having no children, they gave up partitions and left the house open in a vast space over two floors: the upper part serves as a podium for the artists, with the grand piano, the lower part as a lounge for the audience. Little by little the destiny of the “Concerts à La Goulue” took shape there.
The “Concerts à La Goulue”
Carried by a support association created in 2004, the concerts take place on the ground floor, around the keyboard instruments. They offer a springboard to young artists and reveal unfamiliar repertoires, with pride of place for the harpsichord and early music, on equal terms with the classical repertoire. Warmth of welcome, the removal of barriers between artists and audience, a shared drink after the concert: it is a way of reviving, in an unpartitioned version, the idea of salon music, open to all.
