Humus & Wine pairs “the Holy Chasselas and the Noble Decibel”: Swiss and international artists perform at the weekend’s end at Vaud wine estates, between tastings and sonic blasts. Born in 2021 from a joint venture between the Suisse-Romande label Humus and the Brasserie de Montbenon, the festival moves live music into the canton’s finest places, wine estates, cellars, old stones and museums, always at a human scale. Its programme runs from spring to autumn.

Humus & Wine: rock among the vines

The Holy Chasselas and the Noble Decibel

The idea comes down to a formula: the meeting of the wine terroir and the musical soil. Humus & Wine transplants independent music into the regional heritage, and makes “high-class rock” resound in places not built for it, estates, cellars, old stones.

The festival is a joint venture between the Suisse-Romande label Humus, home to Louis Jucker, Elie Zoé, Coilguns, Stéphane Blok, Anna Aaron and Nostromo, among others, and the Brasserie de Montbenon in Lausanne. The capacity stays deliberately human-scale, to nurture closeness between winegrowers and rockers.

Concerts in the vines and the old stones

In 2021 the festival took bands to wine estates, where they played on Sundays, in the sun or in a cellar, before an audience discovering that the host winegrower’s wine happily replaced draught beer. The following editions kept a few concerts in the vines while taking over places to rediscover, glass in hand: old stones and museums.

The music often comes with a visit to striking monuments, the Château de Chillon, the castles of Aigle or La Sarraz, or exhibitions, from the Collection de l’Art Brut to the Fondation de l’Hermitage and the Musée d’art de Pully. The festival also turns up at Riviera winemakers such as the Domaine Vitis Musicalis or the Domaine Wannaz.
