La Margeride is a residential building erected between 1968 and 1973 at 7, rue de Bon-Port, in Territet, by the lake. The work of the architects Jean Serex and the Jaquet-Bernoux-Cherbuin firm, it stands out for a large concrete relief that runs as a frieze above its entrance, like a mineral wave. It was here that the actor Alain Delon rented a flat with his companion of the time, the actress Mireille Darc.

La Margeride: a sculpted façade and a legendary tenant

An architect’s building of the 1970s

La Margeride is no ordinary block of flats. Raised between 1968 and 1973 by the lake in Territet, it is the work of the architects Jean Serex and the Jaquet-Bernoux-Cherbuin firm. The architecture review “Das Werk” devoted a feature to it in 1974, with photographs by Henriette Grindat.

Its signature is a large concrete relief that runs as a frieze above the entrance and continues along the low garden walls: an organic composition of rounded forms and vertical runnels, giving the raw material the look of a wave or a cloud. Beneath the frieze, the building’s name and the number 7 are set in plain lettering. At the rear, the view opens onto the lake and the Dents du Midi.

Alain Delon and Mireille Darc, tenants in Territet

In the 1970s, Alain Delon rented a flat at La Margeride with his companion, the actress Mireille Darc. The two stars of French cinema shared their lives for fifteen years; they were readily seen as locals, notably at the restaurant of the nearby Théâtre de l’Alcazar, in the former Grand Hôtel de Territet.

Mireille Darc also left a mark on Montreux memory: she was among the guests at the inauguration of the rebuilt Casino de Montreux in 1975, alongside Charlie Chaplin, who lived nearby in Corsier, and the actor Eddie Constantine.
