Al Di Meola

Al Di Meola (born 1954 in New Jersey) is a guitar virtuoso, a pioneer of jazz-rock fusion and then an explorer of the acoustic guitar and world music. Revealed within Chick Corea’s Return to Forever, he brought a string of memorable projects to the Montreux stages.
Al Di Meola: the guitars of Montreux
Trios of legend
Montreux saw Al Di Meola in every guise: solo acoustic in 1986, then, in 1989, within the Super Guitar Trio with Larry Coryell and Biréli Lagrène, three guitars answering one another at dizzying speed. In 1994 he presented the Rite of Strings there, an acoustic trio reunited with violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and his former Return to Forever partner, bassist Stanley Clarke.
Several of these concerts were released under the “Live at Montreux” label: the trace of a musician for whom technique was only ever a means to move.
The Montreux Guitar Show
Al Di Meola did not return to Montreux only for the jazz festival. He also played the Montreux International Guitar Show, at the Casino, the great gathering of six-string lovers, where his virtuosity remains an absolute benchmark.
