Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta (born 1986 in New York), is one of the biggest stars in global pop. In Montreux, though, it was her jazz side that she came to reveal: in July 2015, alongside the legendary Tony Bennett, she gave the Auditorium Stravinski a concert of standards, drawn from their album “Cheek to Cheek”.
Lady Gaga in Montreux: “Cheek to Cheek” with Tony Bennett
An evening of standards
On 6 July 2015, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett appeared to a sell-out crowd at the Auditorium Stravinski. Before an audience of every generation, the duo rolled out Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and Édith Piaf, opening with “Anything Goes” before Irving Berlin’s “Cheek to Cheek”.
Nearly thirty songs, some hundred minutes without a break, nine musicians, and a Lady Gaga changing outfits between her partner’s solos: in Montreux, the pop star revealed herself as a crooner, under the wing of an eighty-eight-year-old master.
A book of poems at the Palais Oriental
Lady Gaga has her addresses in Montreux too. A lover of the Palais Oriental, the Persian restaurant on the quay, she was given there, by its owner Shahriar Gharibi, a collection of poems by the Persian poet Omar Khayyam. Her photograph hangs, like those of a few other illustrious regulars, in the first-floor office.
