Samael
Samael is one of the few Swiss bands to figure in the history of Mountain Studios. Coming out of extreme metal before moving towards an industrial and orchestral sound, the band recorded its fifth album, “Eternal”, in Montreux in the spring of 1999, with David Richards producing. The record was released on 19 July 1999 on Century Media and was mastered in London. For a band from the country itself, working in the studio bought by Queen carried the weight of recognition.
Samael: from Valais metal to Mountain Studios
From Sion to the lakeside studio
Samael was born in Sion, in Valais, in 1987, around the brothers Vorph and Xy. Starting out in black and death metal, the band gradually forged a more industrial and orchestral sound, blending guitars, machines and symphonic layers, which made it one of the important names of Swiss metal.
In the spring of 1999, Samael settled at Mountain Studios in Montreux, inside the Casino de Montreux, to record its fifth album, “Eternal”. For a band from the country itself, working in the studio made famous by Queen and David Bowie carried the weight of recognition. The record came out on 19 July 1999.
