The Mona, from the first festival to today

Opened just before the first festival

The hotel opened in 1967, a few weeks before the very first Montreux Jazz Festival. It was then called the Eurotel Riviera and was the only hotel in Montreux with an indoor pool, the Piccard pool. Its 154 rooms over sixteen floors offer a plunging, ever-changing view of the lake and the mountains.

The festival, the video and the new name

The hotel’s story mirrors that of the festival next door. In 1993 the Montreux Jazz moved to the convention centre, the 2m2c, opening the Auditorium Stravinski and the Miles Davis Hall; in 1996 the statue of Freddie Mercury rose just nearby, on the Place du Marché.

In 2016, while visiting the festival’s 50th edition, the American rapper Ty Dolla $ign fell in love with the region and filmed part of the “$” video from the hotel’s rooftop, facing the lake and the Alps. In 2023 the Eurotel changed its name, look and spirit: it became the Mona.
