The Union Chorale of La Tour-de-Peilz

A choir since 1866

Founded on 1 April 1866, the Union Chorale of La Tour-de-Peilz is one of the oldest choirs on the Riviera. A mixed choir of some sixty voices, it specialised in oratorio and champions an essentially classical repertoire, from Palestrina to the twentieth century, with a large place for sacred music.

Its conductors have included Carlo Boller, who led it for some twenty years, then Patrick Bron and Nicolas Reymond (2007-2016). Since autumn 2016 it has been directed by Céline Grandjean. It rehearses at the Salle des Remparts on Monday evenings.

Repertoire and great occasions

The choir gives one or two concerts a year, with works such as Bach cantatas, Mozart’s Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana or Martin Palmeri’s Misatango. It keeps a library of more than a hundred choral scores, lent to other ensembles.

In 2019 the Union Chorale took part in the Fête des Vignerons, before more than 20,000 spectators. In May 2027 it will take part in the 51st Vaud Choral Festival, in Montreux. It also sings alongside the Chœur d’Oratorio de Montreux.

The life of the choir

Beyond the concerts, the Union Chorale keeps up its traditions: choral weekends in Évian or La Tour-de-Peilz to prepare the programmes, a raclette stand at the youth festival, an annual late-August outing to gather after the summer, and the famous “Bougies” evening, the choir’s own Christmas, between songs and the singers’ many talents.
