Yodelling in Blonay
An alphorn trio: “Les Trois Jean”
Since the late 1970s, three alphorn enthusiasts have practised together, for the pleasure of playing and for friendship. After making their way through various ensembles and several regional and federal yodellers’ festivals, Jean-Louis Cochard (Baugy-Montreux), Jean-François Schumacher (Villariaz-Romont) and Jean-Marc Nicolet (Blonay) formed their trio “Les Trois Jean” in the autumn of 2012, for the Désalpe de la Poneyre in La Tour-de-Peilz.

The trio performs at the folklore day of the Groupe des Yodleurs Riviera, for the National Day and at alpine cattle descents, among others. Its repertoire, always played by heart, centres on traditional pieces, performed in the key of “fa” on old instruments.
Jean-Louis and Jean-François were part of the alphorn trio of the Armaillis at the Fête des Vignerons in Vevey in 1999. In 2019 “Les Trois Jean” opened the “Ranz des Vaches” tableau of the Fête des Vignerons, alone on the great stage, with a “call” written by the composer Maria Bonzanigo, just before the herd arrived.
