Sting

Sting (born 1951 in Wallsend, England) was the singer and bassist of The Police before becoming one of the major songwriters of his time, from jazz to world music. In July 2026 he returned to Montreux for the ninth time.

1985 and 1988: the Golden Rose festivals

Long before his 2026 return, Sting had already trodden the Montreux stages. On 10 May 1985 he took part in the second edition of the Golden Rose Rock Festival — the pop-rock strand of the Rose d’Or —, on a very 1980s bill: Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Howard Jones, Spandau Ballet.

On 13 May 1988 he returned to the stage of the Casino de Montreux for another Golden Rose, alongside the likes of Chris Rea. Two appointments that made him a Montreux regular long before the “STING 3.0” era.

2026: STING 3.0

On 4 July 2026, for the 60th edition, Sting took the stage of the Auditorium Stravinski with his “STING 3.0” project: a lean trio, with guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. Nearly twenty songs in a little under two hours, with the songs of The Police returning in force.

It was his ninth appearance at Montreux: proof that a rock voice, too, can be part of the family of a festival born for jazz.
