Address
Port du Basset, Clarens

The great German conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler, a legendary figure of twentieth-century conducting and long-time director of the Berlin Philharmonic, chose Clarens, on the lakeside west of Montreux, to live out his final years, from 1945 until his death in 1954. His bust stands near the Port du Basset, a few steps from the lake he loved to contemplate. A discreet reminder of the appeal the Riviera held for the greatest classical musicians. The bust was unveiled on 28 August 2016.
