Selah Sue, whose real name is Sanne Putseys (born 1989 in Leuven, Belgium), broke through at twenty-one with “Raggamuffin”, a voice blending soul, reggae and pop. A regular at the Montreux Jazz Festival, she returned in 2026 for an unprecedented project.

2026: “Movin’” with The Gallands

Selah Sue is a Montreux regular: she was heard there in 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2024. On 10 July 2026, for the 60th edition, she returned to the Montreux Jazz Lab with an entirely new project, “Movin’”, born of her meeting with The Gallands — the father-and-son duo of jazz drummer Stéphane Galland and his son Elvin, a keyboardist and producer.

Sketched at the Jazz Middelheim festival in Antwerp, the album blends organic groove, improvisational freedom and the warmth of pop-soul: an alchemy that Montreux, true to its taste for encounters, was keen to showcase.

To mark the occasion, the festival and the label Because Music filmed an exceptional live session, far from concert halls: in the open air, on the terrace of the Hôtel du Léman, in Jongny, on the heights above Vevey, facing Lake Geneva. There Selah Sue & The Gallands ran through seven tracks from “Movin’”, from “Ready to Play” to a cover of “Invincible” (Omar Apollo & Daniel Caesar).

Co-produced by Montreux Media Ventures and Because Music, this raw, organic session was shown exclusively on ARTE.TV and RTS — a natural extension of a festival that, since 1967, has made the freedom given to artists its very identity.
