Perched at 1,512 metres at the Col de Jaman, above Montreux, Le Manoïre is an alpine inn with a large terrace facing the Vaud Prealps. People come for hearty mountain cooking, and increasingly for the live music that drops in among the tables in the summer season.
Le Manoïre, music at the pass
Blues and jazz’n’roll at 1,512 metres
At Le Manoïre, the mountain has its own soundtrack. Through the summer season, the inn invites bands to play on the terrace to go with the meals: it has hosted the festive blues of the Crazy Alligators or the jazz’n’roll of the Riviera Goupils, and traditional music has its place too. A glass, a mountain dish, the Prealps opposite and the music rising: the feel of an alpine dance, a stone’s throw from the town of jazz.
A mountain table with a view
In the kitchen, Le Manoïre plays the local card: fondue, rösti and hearty dishes made with produce from the region’s artisans, and, in autumn, the flavours of the game season. The large terrace overlooks the Vaud Prealps and offers one of those panoramas that make you lose track of time. You settle in without hurrying, the kitchen staying open for much of the day.
At the foot of the Dent de Jaman
The pass is easy to reach, by the GoldenPass train to the Jaman stop or on foot along the trails, with free parking at the top of the pass. From there, the Dent de Jaman, with its upright silhouette, watches over the hikers, and the paths run on towards the Rochers-de-Naye. Le Manoïre is a stop in the middle of this landscape, between lake and mountain, like a musical interlude on the heights of Montreux.
