Musée de Montreux
Type
Museum
Address
Rue de la Gare 40, Montreux

Housed in former winegrowers’ houses in old Montreux, the local history museum tells the extraordinary fate of this wine-growing village that became a world capital of tourism and then of music. Its collections cover the development of Belle Époque hotel-keeping and devote a section to musical heritage: the RIAA gold record awarded for the million copies sold of Deep Purple’s single “Smoke on the Water”, displayed alongside historic festival posters (the 1968 to 1970 editions and a poster by Keith Haring), as well as documents and objects linked to the Montreux Jazz Festival and to the artists who made the town a legend.
