Montreux Jazz Origins: the walk to the sources of the festival

At the origins of the festival

Montreux Jazz Origins opens for you the doors of original, sometimes private places, all connected with the origins of the extraordinary Montreux Jazz Festival and its creator, Claude Nobs.

Starting from the Casino de Montreux, where the first editions took place, the tour tells how the festival came to be, and what the links are between the Mountain Studio, housed in that same Casino, its sound engineer and the festival.

From the Mountain Studio to the Queen Studio Experience

The tour includes the Queen Studio Experience, the former Mountain Studio. There you understand how this studio could welcome so many prestigious groups and artists: The Rolling Stones, Yes, AC/DC, Iggy Pop, David Bowie or Chris Rea.

On the way to the old town, you listen to tracks that marked the festival’s history and discover hidden objects and places, linked to the cultural and tourist development of Montreux.

The Taulan Art Factory and the festival logo

The tour ends in a singular building of the old town, a living place dedicated to art: the Taulan Art Factory. There the festival’s graphic approach and its famous logo are revealed through the Montreux Jazz posters.

The walk concludes over an aperitif and refreshments, with a final surprise kept for the participants.

An intimate tour, guided by a child of the Festival

The tours are made on foot, in small groups of six people at most (or individually), to preserve a certain intimacy and to favour conversation.

This tour is designed and guided by Stephan Perrinjaquet, a Montreux native who happily describes himself as a child of the Festival. He attended many concerts of the Casino period and rubbed shoulders with emblematic figures, among them the musicians Astor Piazzolla and David Bowie, the composer Hubert Giraud and the sound engineer and producer David Richards, of the Mountain Studio.
