Fifteen years of Montreux nights

6 April 1979: the Casino nightclub

On 6 April 1979 the Montreux Casino opened its new premises with Le Platinum, an American-style nightclub with three hundred seats, two bars and many special effects. Its director, Mr Bischofberger, called it “the most sophisticated in Europe”.

From 1991 to 1993 the Montreux Jazz Festival held intimate concerts there during the festival — often an occasion for unexpected discoveries.

It was there that the Vaud singer Patrick Juvet met Freddie Mercury several times. Le Platinum closed in 1994.
