Type
Brasserie
Address
Avenue Nestlé 17, 1820 Montreux

Permanently closed

A few steps from the Casino and Mountain Studios, La Bavaria brasserie was one of Freddie Mercury’s favourite tables in Montreux, above all for its rösti. Open for over 130 years, it went through a deep transformation between 2008 and 2010: the whole building, topped by the Élite hotel, was demolished to make way for a new complex. The historic brasserie found a place there again, and the frescoes by the Basel artist Heussler that adorned the original room were faithfully reproduced in the new premises. Renamed Le Bis, the address has since closed.

Freddie Mercury’s brasserie

The rösti, and the end of the house

The Brasserie Bavaria was one of Freddie Mercury’s favourite restaurants in Montreux. He was especially fond of its rösti.

More than a hundred and thirty years old, the brasserie underwent a deep transformation between 2008 and 2010: the whole building, which carried the Élite hotel, was demolished to make way for a new complex, where the historic brasserie found a place again. The frescoes by the Basel artist Heussler that adorned the original room were faithfully reproduced there. In early 2019 the restaurant Le Bis moved in, with contemporary bistro cooking, without the rösti. Le Bis has since closed as well: nothing remains on the spot of the brasserie the singer used to visit.
