Le Museum

- Type
- Historic restaurant
- Address
- Rue de la Gare, vieille ville, Montreux
Founded in 1965 by Claude Nobs and Karl Iverson in the old town of Montreux, Le Museum was first a nightclub, one of the high places of Montreux nights: the artists passing through would come to carry on the party there, away from the spotlight. The address has crossed the eras keeping its warm, folkloric decor; today it is a traditional Swiss restaurant, where you come for fondue, grills and röstis, and a little for the history of its walls too.
Le Museum, Claude Nobs’ club
1965: two years before the festival
In 1965, two years before founding the Montreux Jazz Festival, the young Claude Nobs opened Le Museum with Karl Iverson, in the old town: a nightclub with a warm, folkloric decor.
The refuge of the nights
The artists passing through town, from David Bowie to Mick Jagger, came to carry the night on there away from the spotlight. Le Museum became one of the high places of Montreux nights, in the wake of the festival evenings.
Today: the old-town table
The nightclub gave way to a traditional Swiss restaurant, which kept the original decor. You come for fondue, grills and röstis, and a little for the history of its walls too.
